Most of Hood Mountain Regional Park re-opened

Pythian park entrance open to the public

The Tubbs fire caused the closing of most of Rincon Valley's parks.  The parks are slowing opening back up and returning to normal.  Most of Annadel is open, and County Parks has just opened up the Pythian entrance to Hood Mountain Regional Park (previously only Los Alamos was open).

Hood Mountain Regional Park is one of my favorite parks.  Rarely crowded, and a great workout!  Climbing up to Gun Sight Rock is a mandatory hike for any North Bay hiking enthusiast.

When hiking at Hood Mountain Regional Park, remember:
  • Bring plenty of water
  • Bring a trail map, maps are not always available in the parking lot.  Trail Map
  • Bring a whistle or other safety signaling device

Hikers are asked to stay out of Merganser and Blue Heron ponds area until further notice.

Park Rules:
  • Open sunrise to sunset
  • Dogs on leash okay
  • Water available in parking lot only
  • No smoking/fires
  • No camping
  • Parking fee required
  • No motorized vehicles
  • More park info: Web page

Watch out for:
  • Rattlesnakes
  • Poison Oak
  • Mountain lions
  • Heat injuries
  • Hiking is Moderate to Strenuous
Hood Mt has spectacular views of the Sonoma Valley, it also has some of best wildflowers and local views.
